14 Killed on Ga. Highways Over Memorial Day Weekend

Final numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Safety show that there were no fatal accidents in northeast Georgia over the 2016 Memorial Day travel weekend.

This year’s Memorial Day travel period began at 6 p.m. Friday and went through midnight on Monday.

In all, there were 14 fatalities reported on Georgia highways during that 78-hour span.

Five of those fatalities were investigated by Georgia State Patrol troopers throughout the state.

Other local law enforcement agencies reported the other nine fatalities.

However, none of those fatalities occurred in the Troop B coverage area of the GSP, which covers the northeastern part of the state.
