The Stephens County Indians came from behind to defeat the Hart County Bulldogs Friday night at the Reservation, 21 to 17. After trailing 2 to 0 on a safety, the Indians scored on a 1 yard touchdown run by quarterback Dacen Cash with 5:56 left in the second quarter. Hart County came right back on a 23-yard touchdown run to take a 10 to 7 lead. The Indians would take the lead again on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Cody Martin, but Hart County would score late in the third quarter to retake the lead at 17 to 14. Stephens County would take the lead for good on a 77 yard drive ending on another Dacen Cash 1 yard touchdown. Cody Martin would intercept a Hart County pass to help preserve the 21 to 17 victory.
Stephens County finished with 307 total yards compared to Hart County’s 234. Dacen Cash had 145 yards passing and Ren Teasley had 122 yards rushing. Stephens County improves to 3 & 1 overall. Hart County falls to 1 & 3. The Indians will play Eastside this Saturday night at Covington—kickoff will be at 7:30.
Stephens County suffers its first loss of the 2008 football season.
The Indians fell Friday night to LaGrange on the road by a final score of 30-6.
Stephens County fell behind early as LaGrange scored with the help of some big plays on offense, including a 33-yard wide receiver pass for a touchdown right before halftime to make it 16-0.
The lone Indian touchdown came in the fourth quarter as Dacen Cash found Bryan Whitfield for a 32-yard touchdown pass.
The Indians offensively were led by Ren Teasley’s 22 carries for 57 yards rushing.
The player of the game was Dustin Royston. The lineman of the game was Corey Cleveland.
Stephens County is now 2-1 on the year and will have off this coming Friday before hosting Hart County on September 26 at the Reservation.
