People will have a chance to take “a taste of Toccoa” later today.

Downtown Toccoa will host the 23rd annual “A Taste of Toccoa” today from 5 to 8 p.m.

Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that some 15 area restaurants and caterers will serve sample-sized portions of their most popular dishes.

“We have Mexican food, barbeque, sandwiches, meals, quite a variety,” said Crosby. “You can come and get just about anything you want.”

Tokens to purchase items at the different booths will cost 50 cents each and can be bought at “Taste” this evening or prior to the event today at a number of locations, including First Franklin Financial, Stephens Federal Bank, First Citizens Bank, CK Morgan, Troup’s, and the Toccoa Main Street office.

Besides the food, Crosby said “Taste” includes other activities for people to enjoy.

“We have lots of activities for the kids,” said Crosby. “We have inflatables, bungee jump, Papa’s Little Choo-Choo. All of those are very popular. We also have an entertainment stage.”

Entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. at the stage on Sage Street in downtown Toccoa with Will Thomson. Chuck Taylor will perform at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Rhythm Academy at 6 p.m. and the Chattahoochee Chain Gang at 7 p.m.

People who head out to “A Taste of Toccoa” tonight can also vote at our WNEG Radio booth for the “People’s Choice Award.” Attendees will be able to select a favorite restaurant and favorite menu item.

In addition, Crosby said people can get involved with “Taste” through social media by using Instagram.

“We are also excited to see how the attendess perceive the event,” said Crosby. “We are asking everybody to come this year with their smartphones and take pictures of their favorite people, event, or restaurant and put it on Instagram.”

Crosby said people should use #tasteoftoccoa when posting it and encourage friends to vote for it.

“The picture with the most likes will win a $25 gift certificate to one of our stores downtown of their choice,” she explained.

Meanwhile, a number of streets will close this afternoon in downtown Toccoa for “Taste.”

At 2 p.m., the following streets will close:
