Amnesty Day on Saturday in Stephens Co.

Stephens County will hold its second amnesty day for dumping of large trash this weekend.

The amnesty day for Stephens County residents only will be on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stephens County Road Department at 1597 Scenic Drive.

That is off of Prather Bridge Road and organizers say there will be signs to follow.

Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful Executive Director Linda Scofield said she feels the second one will be just as successful as the first one in the Spring.

“This time, it is going to be at a larger location,” said Scofield. “We expect greater crowds. I think everybody knows about it. Everybody is excited about it. We have been getting a lot of phone calls.”

At the last Amnesty Day in the Spring, about 40 tons of household and large items were taken in over an eight hour period.

Amnesty Day gives Stephens County residents only the chance to unload large household trash like mattresses, metal products, couches, and electronics.

Scofield said there are some things that will not be accepted.

“We are taking everything except tires and no liquids,” said Scofield.

She went on to say that an event like this is a tremendous help in cleaning up Stephens County.

“People did not have the opportunity to do this before and now they do, and I can see that everyone wants to clean up, they really do,” said Scofield.
