Animal Shelter Still Seeking Donations for Matching Grant

Less than a week remains in a special matching grant program involving the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter.

Shelter Director Jeff Roberts said that an organization, Fix Georgia’s Pets, is offering to match donations made to the shelter between now and November 30, up to $5,000 in total donations.

As of Monday, the shelter had received $775 in total donations towards this effort.

According to Roberts, the organization will match 100 percent of the donations up to $5,000 total, meaning for example if someone donates $100, it will give an extra $100.

Roberts said that if the goal of $5,000 in donations is met, then the $5,000 in matching funds will be used to get 200 owned animals spayed and neutered.

According to Roberts, the goal is to cut down on the number of unwanted puppies and kittens born in Stephens County.

He said that each year, 2,000 unwanted dogs and cats come into the shelter and the best way to lower this number is to get animals spayed or neutered.

Donations can be made by going online to www.tschs.org and clicking on the matching grant link.
