Arrest Made in Oak Valley Rd. Burglary

One person is under arrest with more arrests expected after a residential burglary last week in Stephens County.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, it happened on March 2 on Oak Valley Road.

“The victim reported that his prescription medication and a laptop were stolen,” said Shirley. “Entry was gained by kicking in the back door of the house.”

Shirley said a short time later, troopers with the Georgia State Patrol conducted a traffic stop on Doyle Street in Toccoa when the driver of the vehicle attempted to get away.

“Later on, the Georgia State Patrol had stopped a car, which involved a foot chase,” said Shirley.

Authorities caught the individual, identified as Tristen Grafton, age 18, of Lovers Lane, Toccoa.

“A subsequent search of Grafton’s vehicle revealed some medication and some property that was missing from the residential burglary,” said Shirley.

Shirley said Grafton was charged with Burglary, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Obstruction of an Officer.

At last report, Grafton was incarcerated at the Stephens County Jail with a bond set at $41,600.

The sheriff went on to say that the investigation continued by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and that has resulted in more suspects.

“During the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office also learned that there were other persons involved in the planning and execution of the burglary to steal the prescription medication, as well as bribing the victim to drop all charges,” said Shirley. “We have evidence of some messages that were sent back and forth on cell phones. As a result of that subsequent investigation, warrants have been taken for those other suspects that are involved.”

Shirley said that he expects arrests of those other suspects to be forthcoming.
