Austin to Serve on GMA Board of Directors

Toccoa City Commissioner David Austin will serve on the Georgia Municipal Association Board of Directors.

It was recently announced that Austin was elected to sit on that board.

He was recognized at Monday’s Toccoa City Commission meeting.

“One of the things that GMA offers is training for those of us who need training,” said Hellenga. “I found out that David has more class hours than most of the instructors there. He is highly thought of. He gives our community influence and a good name.”

Austin is serving as a Director at Large on the board.

The 63-member Board of Directors is responsible for governing the Georgia Municipal Association.

Created in 1933, the GMA is the only state organization that represents municipal governments in Georgia.

Based in Atlanta, the Georgia Municipal Association is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its members.

GMA’s membership currently totals 521 municipal governments, accounting for more than 99 percent of the state’s municipal population.
