Authorities are still searching for a woman suspected of robbing a bank in the Banks Crossing area yesterday morning.
Banks County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt Carissa McFaddin tells WNEG News it happened Monday morning about 10:30 at the Northeast Georgia Bank branch on U.S. 441.
McFaddin said that at the time of the robbery, the woman was wearing a black bandana on her head but removed it when she left the bank.
Witnesses tell authorities the suspect fled on foot in the direction of the Days Inn.
However, authorities believe she may have fled in a Dodge van.
“She was observed getting into the driver’s seat of a bluish to greyish Dodge Caravan with a New York license plate displayed on the front bumper,” said McFaddin. “The vehicle was described to be a 2006 or 2007 model.”
Witnessess said initially the suspect used a shotgun at the time of the robbery, but McFaddin said later that may not be the case.
“Apparently, the firearm we have in the initial report we said that it was a shotgun, but right now as we’re talking to witnesses, they’re not sure if it was a shotgun or a large pistol,” said McFaddin.
Authorities have not said how much money was stolen.
Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact their local 911 immediately.
