Back to School Bash Saturday

The start of a new school year is just weeks away in Stephens County, which means it is time to start getting ready to go back.

To help get ready to go back, a local church and some other area organizations and businesses are teaming up for what has become an annual event.

This coming Saturday, Tom’s Creek Baptist Church on Highway 145 in Martin will host its 2nd annual Back to School Bash.

Angie Cothran is one of the organizers of the event.

She said the community is welcome to come out and participate.

“On August 1 at Tom’s Creek Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., we will be giving away book bags to each school age child plus we will have shoes, socks, haircuts, face painting, and lunch will be provided for all children and their families.”

Cothran said the community can help out the Back to School Bash still by making a donation to the event of a pair of new or gently used shoes and/or school supplies.

She said those shoes and supplies can be dropped off at a number of locations.

Those are Tom’s Creek Baptist Church, the Toccoa Police Department, Northeast Georgia Housing Authority, Stephens County Sheriff’s Department, Northeast Georgia Bank, and the Wright Credit Union.

“We will be collecting shoes and school supplies up until Friday,” said Cothran.

Cothran said they also appreciate all of the other sponsors that are helping to make this event happen again this year.
