Back to School Sales Tax Holiday This Weekend

With the start of school around the corner around the area and the state, Georgia is once again holding its Tax Free Back to School Weekend today and Saturday.

Under the tax-free weekend, certain clothing, computers, and school supplies will have not state sales tax applied.

On clothing, items with a sales price below $100, such as dresses, hats, pants, shirts, socks, shoes, and underwear, will not be charged state sales tax.

However, things considered accessories, like jewelry, purses, watches, umbrellas, and cosmetics, will still have sales tax applied.

In addition, no state sales tax will be applied on computers, certain software, or computer components for noncommercial or personal use and as long as it is $1,000 or less.

Examples include laptops, tablets, monitors, hard drivers, and printers.

However, items like regular batteries, computer bags, digital cameras, projects, surge projectors, and TVs will still have state sales tax added.

Along with clothing and computers, no state sales tax will be charged on school supply items valued at $20 or less.

That includes binders, book bags, calculators, crayons, folders, glue, index cards, and notebooks.
