BOE Sets Dates For Interviews On Vacancy

The Stephens County Board of Education will interview candidates for one of its two vacant seats next month.

Last week, Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey announced that a called meeting of the school board had been set for Thursday, July 7 at 5:30 p.m. to interview candidates for the seat left vacant by the resignation of Jeff Webb from the Board of Education back in April.

Dorsey said candidates who are not interviewed at the called meeting on July 7 would be interviewed on July 14.

According to Dorsey, seven people have applied to fill Webb’s seat.

They are T. Craig Beatty, Choyce Watson, Bill Wheeler, Clint Simmons, Patricia Chism, Dave Stancil, and Isaac White.

Whoever is chosen by the Board of Education to fill Webb’s seat will serve the remainder of his term, which runs through the end of 2018.

Webb’s seat is one of two that is currently vacant on the Stephens County Board of Education.

The other vacancy was created last month when Jim Ledford resigned from the school board for personal reasons one day after losing his re-election bid in the Republican primary to Mark Smith.

School board members have not had a meeting since Ledford’s resignation was announced to discuss filling his seat for the remainder of his term, which runs through the end of this year.
