Breaking News: Escaped Inmates Captured

The two inmates who escaped from a Georgia state prison Tuesday after overpowering and killing two prison guards are back in custody in Tennessee.

24-year old Ricky DuBose and 44-year old Donnie Russell Rowe were spotted this evening in the Shelbyville, Tennessee area.

GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles announced Thursday night Rowe and DuBose were apprehended Thursday in Christiana, Tennessee.

A nationwide manhunt was underway for the pair.

Authorities say Rowe and DuBose overpowered, disarmed and shot to death Baldwin State Prison transfer sergeants Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue on a prison bus early Tuesday morning in Putnam County southeast of Atlanta.

In a press conference Thursday night, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said the pair had abandoned the stolen white pick up near Lynchburg, TN, stole another car, then abandoned it in Bedford County, TN.

They then broke into the home of an elderly couple and stole their car.

Sills said a high-speed chase ensued with deputies in Rutherford County.

They wrecked the car on the Interstate, fled into some woods, but came out later and surrendered.

At the time of their escape, Dubose, who is from Comer in Madison County, was serving a maximum 20-year sentece for the shooting and robbing of an elderly homeless veteran in Elberton.

Rowe was serving a life sentence for burglaries in Bibb County.

Sheriff Sills says they are now being held in the Rutherford County Jail awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
