Changes Coming to Banks Co. Intersection

The Georgia Department of Transportation will be making a major change to a heavily traveled Northeast Georgia intersection.

This week, 28th District State Representative Dan Gasaway announced that the DOT will be making changes at the intersection of Georgia Highways 63 and 198 in Banks County.

According to Gasaway, the changes are coming after a tragic and serious traffic accident at the intersection two weeks ago.

Gasaway said that following that accident, he, 50th District State Senator John Wilkinson, and the Banks County Board of Commissioners all asked the DOT to study the intersection and take action.

He said the initial improvement will be to make the intersection a four-way stop.

Gasaway said the longer-term solution will be the installation of a continuous flow round-a-bout at that location.

According to Gasaway, work on the changes is scheduled to begin today and be completed by March 24.

Gasaway said he appreciates the Georgia DOT’s prompt action and attention to this matter, noting that many in Stephens, Banks, and Habersham counties use that route and pass through that intersection.
