City Applying For Another Schaefer Center Grant

The city of Toccoa is seeking more grant funds to help pay for the next phase of renovations at the Schaefer Center in downtown Toccoa.

On Monday, the city commission unanimously approved a resolution for a USDA Rural Business Development Grant application.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that this money would help with the work that is planned next for the Schaefer Center.

“The next phase of the renovation work at the Schaefer Center includes balcony renovations, dressing room renovations, and enhancements to the entrance plaza,” said Morse.

According to Morse, the grant would cover half of what is expected be a nearly $100,000 project, with the city covering the other half of the cost.

Morse also noted that these improvements to the Schaefer Center are among the goals this year for the Toccoa City Commission.

The grant application approval was also recommended by the city’s Downtown Development Authority.
