City Sends Out Letter on Downtown Parking

The city of Toccoa is asking residents, property owners, and business owners in the immediate downtown area to leave on-street parking spaces available for visitors to the downtown.

Toccoa Main Street Director Connie Tabor said a letter went out from the city to those individuals last week detailing the request.

The letter asks residents, business owners, and employees to park in the public parking lots between the hours 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

During off-peak business hours, they can use the street parking, said Tabor.

Tabor said the city is only referring to a small section of downtown, specifically Doyle Street from Alexander Street to Hill Street and Sage and Pond streets from Foreacre Street to Tugalo Street.

According to Tabor, this request is coming because the city prefers not to implement an ordinance restricting on-street parking.

Tabor said the goal is to have parking available on the street to help make people’s visits to downtown more enjoyable.

“We are wanting to make sure we have ample parking spaces for both locals and visitors that are coming downtown to shop and do business, as well as dine,” said Tabor.

According to Tabor, the city appreciates the willingness of business owners, residents, and property owners in this area to comply with this request.
