Cleveland Man Appointed To State Board

A northeast Georgia man is re-appointed to the state’s Board of Juvenile Justice.

On Thursday, Governor Nathan Deal re-appointed Fred Stephens of Cleveland to the Board of Juvenile Justice.

Stephens is the interim police chief for the Clarke County School District Police Department.

He retired from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation after more than 31 years of service and then served as the assistant police chief of support service and field operations for the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Stephens is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College and the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Newberry College and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University.
