Coan Wins Second Gold

MCoan-picMcKenzie Coan is golden once again.

The Clarkesville native won her second gold medal of the 2016 Rio Paralympics on Wednesday, taking first place in the women’s S7 400-meter freestyle.

Coan crossed the line in 5 minutes, 5.77 seconds.

She won the race by 12.43 seconds over the silver medalist, fellow American Cortney Jordan.

Jordan and Coan are actually training partners in the pool.

This is the fourth of seven events for Coan.

She previously took gold in the women’s S7 50-meter freestyle, setting a new Paralympic record in the process.

Also during the Paralympics, she has finished fifth in the S7 100-meter backstroke and sixth in the S7 50-meter butterfly.

Coan has one more individual event, the S7 100-meter freestyle.

She is also slated to swim in two relays, the 4×100 freestyle relay and the 4×100 medley relay.

Coan is the daughter of Dr. Marc Coan, who practices internal medicine at the Toccoa Clinic.
