Convicted NE Ga. Sex Offender Arrested in Va. After AMBER Alert

A man convicted of child molestation charges in northeast Georgia is back in custody in Virginia after being on the run with a teenage girl over the past week.

WCYB-TV in Bristol, VA reports that 41-year-old Benjamin Shook was found with 14-year-old Hayleigh Wilson in Smyth County, Virginia on Tuesday.

An amber alert had been issued for Wilson, who allegedly went on the run with Shook after leaving her home in eastern Tennessee on June 22 when authorities say she met Shook in an online chat room, according to the WCYB report.

The girl is in good condition, according to the report.

Shook was released back in September after serving a 10-year prison sentence in Georgia.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections web site, he was convicted of child molestation in Habersham County and aggravated child molestation in Stephens County.
