Corps Recognizing National Public Lands Day Saturday

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District will waive all day use fees for visitors during Fee-Free Day this Saturday, September 26, which held in conjunction with National Public Lands Day.

Also, the Corps says National Public Lands Day volunteers are additionally eligible to receive a fee-free coupon valid for one year from the issue date.

Corps officials say Fee-Free Day covers boat launch ramps and day use fees at Corps-managed recreation areas but does not apply to camping or camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters.

The Corps cautions that other state and federal agencies that manage recreation areas located on Corps lands are encouraged, but not required, to waive day use fees in the areas they manage.

According to the Corps, National Public Lands Day volunteers may redeem the fee-free coupon for one day of entrance or day use fees at any participating federal agency park, forest or recreation area that charges either of these types of fees.

The coupon will be honored at all Savannah Corps projects regardless of whether there was a National Public Lands Day event held at the project during the year.

The coupon will admit the person whose name appears on the front and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle.

Visitors may also use the coupon at any of the four other participating federal agencies to include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service.

Held annually in September, officials say National Public Lands Day showcases the nation’s public lands and the importance of protecting natural resources through responsible use and volunteerism.
