Corps Waiving Day Use Fees Friday for Veterans

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is doing its part to recognize veterans this Veterans Day holiday.

Corps officials said that day use fees will be waived at Hartwell and J. Strom Thurmond projects for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11.

The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches.

However, it does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters.

Also, the Corps said other agencies that manage recreation areas on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas that they manage.

Savannah District Natural Resources Program Manager Joseph Melton said that as a token of the Corps’ appreciation to the men and women who have served the nation and the armed forces, it is offering recreation areas free of day use charges for veterans to enjoy their favorite outdoor activities.
