County Gets Update on LOST, SPLOST Collections

Stephens County gets a first look at some of its Fiscal Year 2016 financial numbers.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers went over Local Option Sales Tax and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax collection figures with the county commissioners.

Ayers said that both the LOST and the SPLOST collections seem to be holding steady.

“Our Local Option Sales Tax for the year, how it is ending up, it is just a very, very flat number from Fiscal Year 2015,” said Ayers. “We are just like less than one percent change from 2015 in our LOST and our SPLOST.”

As far as SPLOST goes, Fiscal Year 2016 marks the second year of six years of collections for SPLOST VI.

According to Ayers, Stephens County collected almost $6.5 million in SPLOST revenues for the fiscal year that ended back on June 30.

She said total SPLOST collections are coming in between what the county budgeted for and the maximum collection numbers it turned into the state.

“We are actually running about $19.8 million, so that will allocate right now about $628,000 more to roads and bridges at the end of SPLOST if we run the way we are running,” said Ayers.

Ayers said she is very satisfied with the LOST and SPLOST revenue figures that she has been seeing.
