Dawkins Appointed to School Board

The Stephens County Board of Education will once again have a full slate of members.

Tuesday, the Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Wendy Dawkins to the District 1, Post 1 seat on the Stephens County Board of Education.

That is the seat that was vacated when Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton resigned earlier this year.

Board of Education Chairman Tony Crunkleton made the motion to nominate Dawkins to serve the remainder of Pinkerton’s term.

“We have been waiting, obviously, until qualifying,” said Crunkleton. “As it turns out, we have one person that has qualified for that position.”

Dawkins will fill the remainder of Pinkerton’s term, which runs through December.

As she is unopposed on the ballot for Pinkerton’s seat, she would then serve a full four-year term that would start in January on the Stephens County Board of Education.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that the system will turn in all of the necessary paperwork and information to the state regarding Dawkins filling the seat.

He said if all goes as planned, Dawkins could take her seat on the Board of Education as early as next month.
