Details Released in Fatal Accident

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley identifies the victim in Thursday morning’s fatal accident in Stephens County.

On Thursday afternoon, the sheriff identified the victim as 18-year-old Michael Dustin Hill of Toccoa.

The accident occurred at about 2:50 a.m. on Combs Avenue in Martin.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2000 gold Ford Ranger was traveling south on Combs Avenue when it crossed into the northbound lane and ran off the east shoulder of the road.

Troopers said the truck then struck a tree and the driver was ejected and vehicle caught on fire.

Sheriff Shirley said when his deputies arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

The sheriff went on to say that the Georgia State Patrol and Stephens County Coroner’s Office are assisting with the accident investigation, along with the Sheriff’s Office.

The Martin and Big Smith Volunteer Fire Departments also responded to the scene of the accident to extinguish the vehicle fire.

Elsewhere, Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said two people were transported for medical care after an accident in Toccoa Thursday morning.

It happened at about 8:40 a.m. Thursday at the corner of Big A Road and Doyle Street.

Jarrell said that there were no visible injuries, but there were complaints of neck and back pain.
