Details Released in Monday Accident on Jenkins Ferry Rd.

Authorities have released more information on an accident Monday in Stephens County involving a bicycle and a vehicle.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a bicycle occupied by 76-year-old Steven Smith of Toccoa collided with a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria driven by 68-year-old Richard Wesley Dortch of Martin on Monday at 10:42 a.m. on Jenkins Ferry Road.

The GSP said in its report that both the bicycle and the Crown Victoria were traveling east on Jenkins Ferry Road when the car went to pass the bicycle in a no passing zone.

Troopers reported that the bicycle then turned left in front of the vehicle and the car struck the bicycle in the westbound lane of Jenkins Ferry Road and the bicycle then struck the car’s windshield.

In the report, it said that the car then swerved back into the eastbound lane of Jenkins Ferry Road and stopped.

Smith was transported by air to Greenville Memorial Hospital with what were termed as unspecified injuries.

Meanwhile, Dortch was not injured.
