Details Released on Monday Accident

Authorities have released details about a multiple-vehicle accident that occurred earlier this week in Toccoa.

The accident occurred on the 600 block of Falls Road on Monday at about 9:45 a.m.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria driven by 47-year-old Joe Lewis Harrison of Toccoa was traveling north on Falls Road when it attempted to pass an Avita transport van being driven by 50-year-old Regina Ward Mumley of Toccoa in a no-passing zone.

Troopers reported that the van attempted to turn left into a private driveway and the Crown Victoria struck the van on its left side as it began turning left.

Both vehicles then traveled off of the roadway on the west side and went up an embankment before traveling into a parking lot and struck a third, unoccupied vehicle.

Harrison told the GSP he attempted to pass the van in a no-passing zone because his passenger was having a medical emergency and he was trying to get him to the hospital.

The GSP said a passenger in the Crown Victoria and Mumley were both transported to Stephens County Hospital with possible injuries.

Troopers went on to say that there were numerous passengers in the van, but not all were at the scene when they arrived.

According to authorities, some of them were taken for treatment by a private vehicle.
