Dorsey Still Monitoring School Traffic

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said traffic is something they are continuing to watch at the schools.

Dorsey updated the school board at its work session and called meeting on Thursday.

He said he does feel like the traffic situation has continued to get better.

“It has improved tremendously over at Big A with the re-structuring of the buses in the afternoon,” said Dorsey.

That said, Dorsey notes that he has still received concerns about the traffic in the morning at the middle school.

He said it is something he has looked at the last couple of days.

“The last two mornings I rode that route,” said Dorsey.

He explained that on Wednesday, he got to the Middle School at 7:13 a.m. and was off the road in just over two minutes and in three minutes, he was back out to the stop sign.

On Thursday, Dorsey said that same trip took 10 minutes getting there at 7:16 a.m.

Dorsey said there is one other thing the school system might be able to do to help with middle school traffic.

“Moving the drop-off all the way to the front door because there is sidewalk all the way there and that would just about double the amount of cars that could empty at one time,” said Dorsey. “We might try that.”

Dorsey said he would meet with the middle school about the idea.
