Dorsey Thanks Community For Help With School System Move

School officials said a lot of progress has been made on the moving of classrooms throughout the Stephens County school system to ready for the re-structuring that will be in effect in the Fall.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that last Thursday and Friday following the end of school for students, the system began moving classroom furniture and more around to set up for the new school structure.

“We moved fifth grade stuff over to the middle grades,” said Dorsey. “We re-structured the other three remaining schools that we have open at the elementary level so it was an enormous task for all involved and a lot of stuff to be moved.”

Under that re-structuring, fifth grade classrooms will be in Stephens County Middle School as a separate Fifth Grade Academy, while Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms are headed to Big A Elementary School, first and second grades to Liberty Elementary School, and third and fourth grades to Toccoa Elementary School.

At the same time, classrooms were moved out of Eastanollee Elementary School, which will not be used as an elementary school in Stephens County starting next year.

Dorsey said that the work last week went very well.

“We were so impressed with all of the community support,” said Dorsey. “Our staff members, our teachers, our custodians, volunteers, parents, siblings, moms and dads, children, there were so many people helping. It was amazing to see how much we accomplished in two days.”

He did say there was more to be done, likely next week.

“We got a great deal of that done and certainly had a lot of support from churches, civic organizations, our Chamber, and I just cannot say enough about our staff and their families and their involvement in this whole transition,” said Dorsey.

Dorsey said all of that support made a monumental task manageable and he appreciates all of that support very much.
