DOT Says 17 Widening Will Take Until Fall to Finish

It will be late Fall at the earliest before the entire Georgia Highway 17 widening project is complete.

This week, the Georgia Department of Transportation provided updated projected completion dates for the two phases of the project to make Highway 17 four lanes from the Franklin County line to Memorial Drive in Toccoa.

The northern end of the project, between Toccoa and Scott Road, is projected to be done in June.

It was originally scheduled to be completed on April 30.

DOT officials said weather is the reason for the delay.

Weather is also the reason for the delay in the southern end of the project.

According to the DOT, the section of the project between Scott Road and the Franklin County line is expected to be complete in late Fall.

The southern phase of the work was originally set for a projected completion date of May 31.
