Drought Conditions Improve in NE Ga.

Recent rains are continuing to help improve the drought situation in Stephens County and throughout northeast Georgia.

The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor that was issued on Thursday shows that drought conditions in Stephens County have lessened to “severe drought.”

That is a step down from “extreme drought,” which is where Stephens County was last week.

Much of northeast Georgia has moved into “severe drought” with Stephens County.

Still, much of northern and central Habersham County remains in “extreme drought” this week.

Meanwhile, far northeastern Rabun County has actually improved to a state of “moderate drought.”

Drought conditions are actually improving across the state of Georgia as rain has become more common place.

Less than four percent of the state is in “extreme drought” this week, compared to over 19 percent a week ago.

Also, more than 57 percent of the state is completely out of abnormally dry or drought conditions, compared to less than 12 percent of the state a week ago.

Drought conditions are still most prevalent and the worst in north Georgia.
