Drug Investigation Nets Two Arrests

Two people, including a Toccoa man, face drug charges as a result of a multi-agency drug investigation.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, special agents of the Mountain Judicial Circuit N.C.I.S. Drug Team and deputies from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on the 200 block of West Water Street in Clarkesville Wednesday afternoon as part of a three-month drug investigation that also involved the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Toccoa Police Department, and the National Guard Counter Drug Task Force.

Shirley said that the search warrant resulted in the seizure of approximately 22 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $99,000 and an undetermined amount of cash.

As a result, authorities arrested 38-year-old Ethridge Sovato Russell of Clarkesville and 33-year-old Mikal Andrus Russell of Toccoa.

Authorities have charged both with one count of Trafficking Marijuana, one count of Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, and one count of Transaction of Controlled Substance within 1000 feet of government housing.

Shirley said both men are currently being held in the Habersham County Jail and the investigation remains ongoing.
