Events Scheduled This Weekend in Toccoa for MLK Day

More events are scheduled this weekend in StephensCounty in commemoration of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Saturday at 3 p.m., the Reach Out Time Chapel in Martin will host Senior Citizen Reflections.

Then on Sunday at 5 p.m., Friendship Baptist Church in Martin will host the annual musical extravaganza.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Forest Service will waive fees at most of its day-use recreation sites on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The fee waiver day is the first of four such days and one full weekend offered by the agency during 2014.

U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell said that these public lands are open to everyone, and the agency hopes these free days offer an incentive to all people to visit any of the 193 million acres of land held in trust for their enjoyment and use.

In Georgia, the Forest Service said visitors may check with their local Forest Service office to find out in advance whether waivers will exist at specific sites.

The closest office to StephensCounty is the Chattooga River District Office in Lakemont.  Its phone number is 706-754-6221.
