Fire At Lavonia Business Sunday

Firefighters said it appears an electrical problem may have caused a fire to erupt at Morgan’s Hardware in downtown Lavonia over the weekend.

It happened about 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Lavonia Fire Chief Scott O’Barr said his station was quick to respond.

“This morning we received an alarm through 911 of a possible fire at Morgan’s Hardware,” O’Barr said Sunday. “When we arrived on the scene we found a small electrical fire. It seems something shorted out in the power panel. We extinguished the fire quickly and there was minimal loss.”

The store was closed at the time the fire broke out Sunday.

O’Barr said the fire caused some minor damage in the back of the store, but no one was injured.

Morgan’s Hardware is one of the oldest businesses in Franklin County has been a contiuously running hardware store since it opened in the 1880’s.
