Fire Safety Festival on Saturday

An annual event this weekend will again put fire safety at the forefront.

People First of Stephens County’s annual Fire Safety Festival is coming up on Saturday.

According to Supporter Jeraldine Hayes, People First is an organization that works with people with disabilities.

Hayes said Saturday’s event, however, is open to everybody in the community.

“If you have been through it before, come back through as a refresher,” said Hayes. “This information can be life-saving.”

Hayes went on to say that there will be other activities for people who come out on Saturday to enjoy.

“This year, we are fortunate to have the Lions Club come on board,” said Hayes. “They will be doing free vision and hearing screenings. We will have food out there, music.”

People First of Stephens County has held this event for the last several years and it started after a disabled individual died in a house fire.

Hayes said it has always gone well and they are looking forward to another successful day on Saturday.

Saturday’s Fire Safety Festival in Toccoa takes place at Emory Johnson Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
