Fire Safety Festival Saturday

An event this weekend in Toccoa will call attention to the topic of fire safety.

People First of Stephens County is hosting its annual Fire Safety Festival Saturday in the parking lot of the Fernside Fire Department in Toccoa.

People First is an advocacy group for individuals with disabilities.

Jeraldine Hayes is a People First Supporter.

She said the event will include a great deal of important fire safety information.

“The fire department will have a mobile unit where they will do hands-on training on how to escape a house on fire,” said Hayes.

Hayes said the festival will also have food, a blood mobile for people to donate blood, and other activities.

People First Vice President Sophia White said they welcome everyone to come out to the festival.

“We definitely encourage anyone that deals with people with disabilities to bring them out because they need to know how to escape (a house on fire) if they are left at home by themselves,” said White.

The Fire Safety Festival will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Fernside Fire Department is located on Fernside Drive, just off of Big A Road, in Toccoa.
