Former Tax Commissioner Honored With Plaque

Stephens County is taking time to honor a former elected official.

On Tuesday, the Stephens County Commission accepted a plaque honoring former Tax Commissioner Elizabeth Camp Williams.

That plaque will hang in the Stephens County Government Building and the county has dedicated the seating in the Stephens County Government Building to Williams’ memory.

Stephens County Commission Chair Dennis Bell said it is a special privilege for him and the county to do this.

“She is a legacy and she did a great job as Tax Commissioner,” said Bell. “This is something that should have been done years ago and I hope that the family and her friends and everybody else can enjoy seeing this beautiful plaque.”

Williams served as Stephens County Tax Commissioner from 1976 to 1980.

She died during her first term in office, the victim of a homicide.
