Voters in Franklin County turned out in record numbers this election.

Of the 13,000 registered voters in the County, over 8,500 voters cast ballots or 65.60 percent.

As expected, Franklin County voters overwhelmingly went with Donald Trump as their choice for the 45th President of the United States.

According to the unofficial results with all seven precincts, the absentee paper ballots and early ballots in, Trump received 82.5% of the vote to Clinton’s 14.5% and Gary Johnson’s 2%.

In the race for the U.S. Senate, voters in Franklin County chose incumbent Republican Johnny Isakson over Democratic challenger Jim Barksdale.

Isakson received 81.7% of the Franklin County vote over Barksdale’s 14%.

Voting throughout early the voting period and all day Tuesday was very heavy with every precinct reporting people waiting in line well before the polls opened at 7 a.m.

Throughout the day in Franklin County, poll workers reported a steady stream of voters, but no major problems or issues.

And there were no problems at the Elections and Registrations office in Carnesville Tuesday night with all seven precincts returning their ballot cards by 8:30 p.m.

By 9 p.m., all votes were counted with only one provisional ballot.

Elections Supervisor Gina Chappalear said the Elections Board reviewed that provisional ballot and disallowed it.
