Franklin County’s commission office will be getting an major upgrade to its software and computer equipment.

Recently, Franklin County Manager Beth Thomas asked the Board of Commissioners to approve her recommendation of Edmunds and Associates as Franklin County’s new software provider.

Monies for the new software have already been allocated from SPLOST.

According to Thomas, $100,000 of SPLOST funds will pay for the new software and new hardware.

Thomas said part of the new hardware includes a new server.

She said that Franklin County’s current server is kind of on its last leg, explaining that the current server does not have an operating system back up.

According to Thomas, it has a partial one and about a year ago, Franklin County discovered it hadn’t been backed up in eight years.

Franklin County managed to get a partial back up but now it is having to clean it every week and a half versus every month, creating a critical time point.

Thomas said Franklin County expects to begin making the changeover to the new software this summer.

After hearing from Thomas, Franklin County Commissioners unanimously approved hiring Edmunds and Associates as the County’s new software provider.
