Ga. State Senate Honors McKenzie Coan

The Georgia State Senate honors Paralympic gold medalist McKenzie Coan.

Earlier this month, 50th District State Senator John Wilkinson recognized Coan in the Senate Chamber with Senate Resolution 80.

Wilkinson said he was honored to have the distinct privilege of recognizing McKenzie and her accomplishments in the Senate.

He said McKenzie is a brilliant and strong young woman who has proven that through hard work and dedication anything is possible, adding that he is truly humbled to know her and her family.

Coan won four medals in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, including three gold medals in the 50, 100 and 400 meter freestyle events and a silver medal in the 400 meter freestyle relay.

She was diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta as a child and began swimming at age six.

Also, Coan is currently a student at Loyola University in Baltimore and has plans to attend law school upon graduation.
