Gasaway Named to House Study Committee

28th District State Representative Dan Gasaway will serve on a special House Study Committee.

Thursday, Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston announced that he had appointed Gasaway to serve on the House Study Committee on School Counseling and Role of School Counselors.

This study committee was established by House Resolution 765 and will study how best to design and implement comprehensive school counseling programs.

House Resolution 765 states that efforts need to be undertaken to ensure that all schools implement comprehensive school counseling programs and to ensure that all students have access to a school counselor.

The resolution states that school counselor caseloads, based on current funding, often prevent equitable student access to school counseling services and the state does not have a standard performance evaluation specific to school counseling.

Gasaway is one of six Representatives named to the study committee.

Joining the Banks County Republican are Representative Joyce Chandler of Grayson, who will chair the committee, Representative Valerie Clark of Lawrenceville, Representative Tom Dickson of Cohutta, Representative Lee Hawkins of Gainesville, and Representative Randy Nix of LaGrange.

The committee will remain in place until December 1, 2015 and will be able to file a report, if it chooses, that includes suggestions for proposed legislation to address the issue.
