GDOL to Host Veterans Workshop

The Georgia Department of Labor will host its quarterly veterans workshop Tuesday, May 23rd from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

The workshop will be at the GDOL’s Toccoa Career Center located at 37 Foreacre Street.

Communications Director for the State Department Sam Hall said that the workshop is to help veterans get jobs.

“The State Department of Labor conducts ongoing workshops for the veterans in the area there in the areas around Cornelia and Toccoa,” said Hall. “The purpose for it is to help them get jobs in the area and also to help them get information for services they may need such as healthcare information or counseling information.”

Representatives from agencies will be available at the workshops to assist with job training, social security benefits, healthcare information and more.

Veterans should bring resumes and a valid identification, including military ID cards and driver’s licenses.

Hall said that veterans are a priority for the department of labor.

“Our people who work for the Labor Department go by a policy that’s called priority service to veterans,” said Hall. “It’s required under the U.S. Department of Labor, and what that means is that a veteran who needs a job, if they have the qualifications, will be the first person who would be referred to that job.”

The workshop is open to all veterans and their spouses and/or caregivers. For more information about the workshop, contact the Toccoa Career Center at 706-282-4514.
