GDOT Awards Re-Surfacing Projects

A re-surfacing project on State Route 106 in Stephens and Franklin counties gets the go-ahead to move forward.

Wednesday, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced that it has awarded a bid for just under 10 miles of re-surfacing along State Route 106 to Colditz Trucking of Blairsville for about $2.684 million.

Re-surfacing is slated to take place on State Route 106 from State Route 59 in Franklin County to southeast of State Route 63 in Stephens County.

The DOT also announced a bid award for a Habersham County re-surfacing project on Wednesday.

That project will encompass 3.55 miles of re-surfacing on State Route 197 in Habersham County, starting south of U.S. Highway 23 and 441 and extending south of U.S. Highway 441 Business/State Route 17.

C.W. Matthews of Marietta was the low bidder on the Habersham project at just under $700,000.

No start date was given on either project, but the completion date listed in the bid award for both projects is August 31, 2017.

Overall, GDOT announced a total of $36.7 million for resurfacing or concrete pavement replacement on state routes.

Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell McMurry says that addressing deferred maintenance of critical infrastructure is the primary focus of the Transportation Funding Act of 2015 and this month, the DOT has awarded contracts for resurfacing or replacing pavement on 110 miles of state highways.

McMurry says the state is steadily working its way toward restoring a 15-year resurfacing cycle instead of the 50-year cycle it faced in 2014.
