Geep Cunningham Named Habersham AD

Former Stephens County High School boys’ basketball coach Geep Cunningham will become the new system-wide athletic director for Habersham County Schools.

The Habersham County Board of Education unanimously approved Cunningham’s hire on Thursday.

It is a 49 percent position and is based out of Habersham Central High School.

Cunningham coached basketball for 21 years at Stephens County High School, stepping down after the 2008-2009 season. Recently, Cunningham has been a Math teacher at Stephens County High School on a 49 percent basis.

The move also marks a return home for Cunningham.

He was inducted as a member of the inaugural class of the Habersham Central Basketball Hall of Fame in December 2008.

Cunningham was a three-year starter in the mid-1970s for the Habersham Central basketball team, including being named the MVP of the 1973-1974 squad.

He has also coached at Habersham Central, along with coaching stops at West Rome and Franklin County.

Cunningham starts his new job at Habersham Central on July 8.

He replaces Amy Hood, who had held the athletic director post at Habersham Central previously.
