GSP Releases Information on Friday Morning By-pass Accident

One person was transported to Stephens County Hospital after a Friday morning accident on the Toccoa By-pass.

It happened at the intersection of the By-pass, or State Route 17, and State Route 145.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2009 blue Ford Escape, driven by Natalie Gadow of Eastanollee, was traveling west on State Route 145 and was stopped on a red light at the intersection with State Route 17.

Meanwhile, the GSP says a 1999 white Mack tractor trailer, driven by Jeffery Stephens of Lula, was traveling northbound on State Route 17 in the right lane.

Troopers say the driver of the Escape failed to obey the traffic control signal and pulled into the path of the Mack.

The GSP says the driver of the tractor trailer swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful and the right side of the tractor trailer struck the left front of the Escape.

According to the report, the driver of the Escape was transported to Stephens County Hospital for injuries to the upper extremity, while a passenger, Gordon Gadow, complained of injury and was not transported.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
