Habersham Groups Gets Literacy Grants

Two Habersham County groups get literacy grants.

Earlier this month, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Volunteers for Literacy of Habersham County, Inc. and Cornelia-Habersham County Library grants in the amount of $8,000 and $1,500, respectively to support local literacy programs.

These local grants are part of over $7.1 million awarded today to more than 900 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 43 states the company serves.

Recipients of the grants will use Dollar General Literacy Foundation funds to support programs aimed at enhancing summer, family and adult literacy programs.

Grants will be used to help promote childhood summer reading or help adults learn to read, prepare for the high school equivalency exam or learn English.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education as part of the company’s mission of Serving Others for over 20 years. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $120 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 7.3 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
