Habersham Sweeps SCHS in Basketball

The Stephens County Indians could not overcome a big night from Habersham Central’s Mason Kinsey as the Raiders ended the Indian boys’ six-game winning streak.

Kinsey scored 35 points as the Raiders beat the Indians 64-54 in Mt. Airy on Saturday night.

Stephens County trailed by just one point at the half, but Kinsey led the Raiders on a 14-0 run to start the third period and the Indians got no closer than 9 points the rest of the way.

Tay Jones scored 13 points to lead the Indians, while Micah Oglesby added 11 and Deundra Singleton scored 10 points.

With the loss, the Indian boys drop to 8-3 on the year.

Meanwhile, the Lady Indians also saw Habersham Central pull away in the third quarter of the girls’ game as the Lady Raiders beat Stephens County, 41-32, in the girls’ game.

Stephens County’s girls did not score a point in the third quarter, while Habersham scored 10 to break open what was a one-point game at the half.

Kentasia Trimier scored 15 points to lead all scorers.

The Lady Raiders were led by McKenzie McDuffie’s 14 points, while Lainey Gosnell added 11.

The Lady Indians are now 3-8 on the year.

Stephens County basketball returns home today for a non-region game against Hart County.

Tip-off at the Currahee Arena is set for 6 p.m. for the girls’ game with the boys’ game to follow.
