Hart Co. Commission Agrees on Job Description for Administrator Post

After a lengthy heated discussion, the Hart County Board of Commissioners has signed off on the job description for the position of County Administrator.

At their meeting Tuesday night, Interim County Administrator Terrell Partain said the job description is in place from the Georgia Mountains Regional Development Commission with few changes.

County Commissioner RC Oglesby then motioned to approve the description.

That motion was seconded by Commissioner Jimmy Carey.

Cary then requested the motion be amended to give the Administrator more authority over the hiring and firing of personnel.

That motion passed unanimously.

Questions then arose about when to advertise the position.

Commissioner Joey Dorsey noted that in May, the Board agreed to wait 90 days to advertise to give Partain a chance to see if he likes the job enough to apply for it.

That would mean the County would not advertise the job until August 10th.

But Commissioner Oglesby then motioned to advertise internally during the weeks left before the 90-days runs out.

However, commissioners could not agree as to whether that was part of the 90-day waiting period and they turned to County Attorney Walter Gordon for help.

“I’m not really clear on the motion on (May) the 10th,” he said. “The motion was that there would be no hiring for 90-days from May 10th . And if it extended to advertising or taking any other affirmative steps, then you do need to amend that motion.”

After more discussion, the Board took no vote as to when to begin advertising the job.
