Hudgens Issues Initial Winter Storm Damage Cost Estimate

Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is putting a number on the estimated insured losses in Georgia from last week’s winter storm.

Hudgens said that those estimated insured losses in Georgia from last week’s winter storm stand at $25 million.

The estimate was based on claims reported by various property and casualty insurance companies.

The commissioner said that these claims reports are only a partial listing and not all companies have reported.

As new claims are reported, Hudgens said the state anticipates that $25 million figure to rise in the coming days and weeks.

Hudgens said property owners with damaged property can take some steps to begin the claims-filing process.

He said those steps are contacting your insurance agent immediately if you have had damage to either your house or car and then securing your property to protect it from further damage.

Hudgens said if you have questions about your policy, or if you are experiencing difficulty reaching your company, call Commissioner Hudgens’ Consumer Services Hotline at 1-800-656-2298.

Phone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
