Humane Shelter Helps Rescue Hall Co. Dogs

The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter works with regional partners to help rescue a number of dogs in another county.

Shelter Director Jeff Roberts said that the Toccoa shelter recently worked with the Atlanta Humane Society on the rescue of 48 Shelties from a Hall County breeder who could no longer care for the dogs.

“I got a call from a Stephens County resident wondering if I could help a breeder out who had some health issues and could not care for these dogs she was breeding, so I reached out to her and got something set up with Atlanta Humane and Friday, we went down and rescued 48 Shelties from the shelter.”

Roberts said that the dogs were initially frightened because they had only ever been handled by the breeder, but quickly came around.

He said he is glad that Toccoa was able to help put this rescue together.

According to Roberts, the Atlanta Humane Society will do more detailed veterinary examinations on the dogs and have them spayed or neutered before putting them up for adoption.
