Indian Baseball Team Holds Banquet

A number of Stephens County Indian baseball players are recipients of All-Region honors.

Those players were among those recognized at last Wednesday’s baseball season banquet held at Stephens County High School.

Ryan Cleveland was named the Region 8-AAAA Hitter of the Year, while Austin Lord was named the region’s Pitcher of the Year.

Cleveland and Lord were also named to the All-Region team, along with Kain Dyer-Hewitt, Davis McCall, and Max Thomas.

The Stephens County High School baseball team also handed out a number of other awards during last week’s banquet.

They include:

Varsity Awards

  • MVP – Ryan Cleveland and Austin Lord
  • Best Defensive Player – Austin Lord (1.90 ERA, 71 K, 14 BB)
  • Best Offensive Player – Max Thomas
  • Coaches Award – Luke Gibbs
  • “Mr. Hustle” Coaches Award – Casey Dickerson
  • Comeback Player of the Year – Dustin McCall
  • Most Improved Player – Logan Bell and Easton Davis
  • Highest Batting Average – Max Thomas (.432)

Junior Varsity Awards

  • MVP – Evan Rumsey (.511 BA, 7-0 pitching record)
  • Best Offensive Player – Andrew Floyd (.405) and Ben Cleveland (.460)
  • Best Defensive Player – Jacob Haddock
  • Coaches Award – Logan Loudermilk
  • Most Improved Player – Konner Quick (.396)

The Stephens County Indian varsity baseball team finished 22-7 on the year, falling to Crisp County in the state AAAA quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the Indian junior varsity baseball team finished 16-2 on the season, taking second place in the JV Region tournament.
