Indians Drop Nail-Biter To Open Region Baseball Play

Oconee County’s Cam Conglose’s single with one out in the bottom of the 7th inning plated the winning run and Oconee County defeated Stephens County, 7-6, in the opening game in Region 8-AAAA for both teams.

Stephens County opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Bryson Fowler’s ground ball scored Kole Rogers from third base.

Oconee County came right back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run by UGA-bound Connor Tate and led 2-1.

The Warriors extended the lead to 6-1 by batting around in the bottom of the third inning and chasing Indians’ starter Gabe White.

The Indians bats got going in the 5th with RBI singles by Rogers and Kooper Briley, trimming the lead to three. The Indians tied the game in the 6th, scoring three runs on four straight two-out hits.

Dawson Sorrells knocked in two with a single, and a Kole Rogers triple tied the game.

Chaz Bridges was outstanding in relief coming on in the third inning, but suffered the loss giving up the winning run in the 7th.

With the loss, the Indians fall to 0-1 in the region and 10-6 overall. Oconee County gets their 9th straight win and improves to 1-0 in the region and 10-3 overall.
